This project started out in the LP era as an Arthur Foote record, when none of these four chamber works with flute had been recorded. Around the time it was scheduled to be released, Northeastern Records made the decision to issue all new releases in the newfangled Compact Disc format. Since the playing time of the Foote pieces alone was not sufficient for the new (and expensive) medium, Northeastern asked me for a proposal to flesh out the project. Aaron Copland's music offered an appealing contrast of style, an appropriate playing time, and a fifth premiere recording (the Two Threnodies).
Due to the recent demise of Northeastern Records this CD is no longer available through the usual retail channels. However I bought the remaining stock from NR and it will be available from Flute World (www.fluteworld.com) as long as supplies last.
